I am a Science Fellow in Attribution at the Met Office and a Professor in Detection and Attribution at the University of Exeter. During my twenty five year career in climate science, I have helped find the tell-tale fingerprints of human influence on climate and have played leading roles in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. I have wrestled with reams of complex data in the search for the tell-tale patterns of climate change, have been confronted by climate deniers set on delaying action on climate and have met some of the people badly affected by climate-related weather disasters.
In 2016 I took part in a marvellous course on popular science writing at one of the Arvon Foundation’s houses tutored by Aarathi Prasad and Michael Brooks. That unforgettable week encouraged me to write a book about my experiences as a climate scientist, both conducting my research and in defending my science against attack. I am represented by Andrew Gordon at David Higham Associates and my book, Hot Air: The Inside Story of the Battle Against Climate Change is published by Atlantic books.
